This is such an incredible time travel book! I thought that the beginning of the title sounded a bit unusual, but now I’m all sold into it. I got hooked after reading the opening chapters and couldn’t wait to read the chapters that followed. This is just so refreshing. I am smiling as I write this; I couldn’t miss sharing my reading experience with this one!

OMG, A CUL8R Time Travel Adventure has a perfect storyline that developed quite quickly and is enough to engage anyone who doesn’t want to get bored. After transporting back in time, Kelly and her friends faced the quest of a lifetime. I couldn’t mention the characters without saying thumbs to the author on such an awesome job. Excellent! The characters were well introduced and realistically developed throughout the book; it was almost as if I actually knew them.

If you’re looking for a thrilling adventure with over-the-top characters, you won’t be disappointed in this book. I am already planning on getting this for my two nieces who are now in College. They love entertaining mystery and adventure genres, and I already know that anyone will love this.
What more could I ask for: brilliant writing, superb plot, lovable characters and great price. Series, here I come!

5.0 out of 5 stars Who is Wendy?, January 17, 2013

Kelly, a 15 year old has just lost her parents and has relocated from her country life in Texas to her Aunt’s home in Ft. Myers, Florida. The home was her grandmothers and while helping her Aunt sort through old boxes, she and a friend she just met, Scott, come across an old box that belonged to her great-great-grandfather.

In the box they found a letter from Thomas Edison expressing he had to stop development on some of his projects and one of the items was a project her great-great-grandfather was working on “Telephone to the Dead as you and I have called it” wrote Edison. Scott and Kelly quickly dub it the “Spirit Radio”.

Intrigued, they pull the device out of the box and try to get it to work without luck. Scott who is handy, especially with cell phones wants to work on it. Convinced he can, Kelly agrees to let him.

The mystery begins when Scott does get the spirit radio to work and a girl named Wendy comes through pleading for help – that she didn’t kill herself. And even more mysterious is that Wendy knows Kelly’s name! Is Wendy really a ghost? And if she didn’t kill herself, who did?

Classic time travel story which features the adventures of Kelly Scott Austin and Zoey who embark on a thrilling journey to solve the mystery of a young girl called Wendy . A persuasive, neatly written, work, put across with acuity and depth. All of the characters unfold with interest and believability and I thought the Thomas Edison reference was a nice touch.

Plot and narrative handled with skill and care.

All in all this is a superlative achievement likely to run and run.

Read this entire book in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down for anything the world AND I have ADHD, so just imagine how easy it for me to get distracted. What really got me about this book are the characters and the story. All the characters the author writes about are personable and easy to fall in love with. By the end of the story I had become so close with each and every one of them. The story itself gets two thumbs up because of how wild and creative it was. Children traveling back in time to answer a distress call from a girl named Wendy, who tells that she didn’t kill herself. Heart-stopping, compelling and all around engrossing is what I can describe this book as.

As soon as I began I wouldn’t let go of my kindle. Love at first word as I call it. Kat, manages to weave a brilliant piece of literature, full of humor, suspense, action and romance. What I love especially about this book is the fact that Kat continues this trend of women protagonist, a change that I’ve been really liking in recent books (Hunger Games, Twilight, Girl with the dragon tattoo). I don’t have anything against male protagonist but I just love being able to see women in the spotlight, taking the lead instead of acting as fodder for the male hero. And Kelly ceased to disappoint. She was organic, realistic and all around relatable, which I really loved about her. Sadly, there is another book in the series that I must wait for, and as soon as it released, I will devour it just as I did with this one. Cheers for Bob Kat!

OMG is book 1 in the CUL8R series. It is a great young adult book and even though at 46, I’m no longer a young adult, I read stories about flying girls and her bird buddies and magical schools that you need a magic train to get to. I enjoyed them immensely and now I will have to add the OMG series to my favorites. Like the previous posts, I finished it in one day! You can’t put it down! It has a great story line that opens up all kinds of possibilities in the next book in the series. Lovable characters, even the unlikable Zoey. I like that they all brought something to the table while helping Wendy. Even Zoey!! The story sticks with you and opens your imagination with a cool time travel app. Wouldn’t that be great when your talking to the boss??! I think adults as well as young adult readers will enjoy this book. Thumbs up in a big way! Go Travelers! It would make a great movie. It was a pleasure to read and you won’t regret getting it!

I haven’t read any other stories about time travel, but I really liked this one. The overlapping stories at times made me slow down and re-read a paragraph occasionally just so that I could keep track of what was happening. The fact that there are parallel realities going on confuses things a bit more. But aside from the confusion, WOW! I’ve been thinking about that book for a week now since I finished reading it. It kept me engrossed with intelligent writing, depth of characters and a fast pace. Overall, a very satisfying novel.

I loved this book, I read it within 2 days, simply couldn’t put it down, it tells the story of 4 teens who travel back in time to try to save a life and solve a mystery, once their they end up risking their own lives.

This is book 1 in the Cul8r series, needless to say I’ll be buying the other books and any others by the author Bob Kat, the story starts in Florida when a teenage girl goes to stay with her grandmother and makes friends with other teens in the neighborhood.

The time traveling sections are written well and the book grips you pretty much from the start. A great read and well worth a look.

We often try many old & new authors in a hope to cherish an exciting new story being told. OMG is one such delightful tale about 4 children who are on an extraordinary adventure. Kelly, the protagonist is sweet, kind and amiable. Scott, the geek is superintelligent, Austin is a handsome jock and Zoey, sexy cheerleader, a little mean on outside but good at core. Initially, Scott and Kelly unwittingly stumble upon Edison’s century old device which can talk to the dead. When this device is turned on, a spirit of a young girl talks to them and asks for their help. To help this girl the four make their way back in 1966 via Scott’s time travelling app to find out what really happened.

The story has a wonderful starting. The visual imagery is evident in the first few lines itself where a beautiful bird is described on the window sill of Kelly. Author Bob Kat has employed various elements like mystery, adventure, science and budding romance in his fiction which makes it a sensational read.

**He looked into her eyes. “I can’t remember when I’ve been so excited about something, and it’s because of you. You have no idea how many people look at me like I’m crazy or eccentric. That is, if they even see me at all.”
A flush colored his cheeks as he continued, “Everyone thinks it doesn’t bother me, but it does. No one likes to be made fun of. Or to be ignored. It hurts.”
Kelly relaxed and stopped trying to pull away.
“But you don’t treat me that way,” he continued. “You’re different. You believe in me and my wild ideas. You don’t judge me.”**

One of the Para’s taken from the novel which is worth adoration. How many stories would convey young adults to be non-judgemental and to see people for their qualities?
Virtues like this when conveyed in style leave us spellbound and seek for the next edition. I would keep a tab on Bob for his new writes.

A girl, a geek and a jock walk into a time warp . . . and this makes a very winning formula for a young adult book. Young adult because there isn’t really much hard science to the time travel aspect. It’s a mystery story primarily and taps into that kind of suspension-of-disbelief that comes easily to anyone 13-16 or if you can put yourself into that frame of mind it works too. One of the most humorous things from the are the seven rules for going back in time, devised by the three travelers, which includes a commitment to not purchase any collectible toys or comic books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Characters, Fast-Paced Plot, January 22, 2013

This review is from: OMG, A CUL8R Time Travel Adventure (Kindle Edition)
Originally I was a little thrown off by the title of this book (not that I’m stuffy and old, but I’m a little older than the generation who speaks in text), but I really enjoyed it. It’s fast-paced, the characters are endearing and relatable, and the end of it left me curious about the next in the series. To me, that’s a sign of a very successful novel!

“OMG CUL8R” focuses on Kelly, a teenager from Texas who has recently been orphaned and sent to live with her Aunt Jane, a busy lawyer who doesn’t have much time for a teenager. Kelly’s new home is in Florida, and almost right away she meets her tall, nerdy neighbor Scott, and they bond over a shared love of a video games and a mysterious gadget they find in Aunt Jane’s garage.

The gadget is none other than a lost invention of Thomas Edison’s, something Scott calls the “Telephone to the Dead.” Once Scott gets the old machine running again, he and Kelly (along with his best friend Austin, the handsome high school quarterback) hear a young girl’s voice, asking plaintively for help. However, the girl’s voice isn’t just coming from a radio frequency one town over…it’s coming from beyond the grave. The trio decides they must help Wendy, and Scott creates a way for them to travel back in time to go to her assistance.

I won’t go into any more of the plot, other than to say that it kept my interest all of the way through. I read a lot of YA, and find that most of it can be enjoyed by adults as well. This novel is no exception–I enjoyed it on several levels. I empathized with Kelly’s body issues, remembering them from when I was a teenager, but as an adult appreciated that she could have a normal relationship with two boys without getting too wrapped up in either of them. Kelly is a strong character and a good role model, and I enjoyed how level-headed and kind she is. I also liked how well-developed the other characters are–Zoey, the beautiful high school cheerleader, has more depth and complexity than it originally appears. Austin, who in many books would be a typical jock, instead is best friends with the class outsider. And Jane, a workaholic, takes time out to treasure her niece and make sure they start developing a strong, mutually respectful relationship. The dialog is great, especially the teens’ banter and how they all work together to solve the obstacles they face.

The novel escalates quickly into action and suspense as the teens travel back to 1966, and the author creates an authentic retro atmosphere that I enjoyed reading about. The conclusion and how it all comes together also very satisfying, yet left me interested in the next installment in the series. In sum, this is a well-written novel that should appeal to a wide audience, and I am looking forward to the next one.

Wow! Wow! Wow! I am a 44 year old mother of a tween and picked up this book from my daughter’s desk. Out of curiosity I read the first few pages. Then the first chapter. Three hours later I was curled up with it on the sofa, devouring page after page. I simply love books for young adults. (Patterson’s Maximum Ride series, Rowling’s Harry Potter series.) This book has fresh realistic characters whom I cared about immediately. Wendy is newly orphaned and needs something in her life to help her heal. She finds this in two neighborhood boys and an attic trunk. Time travel and a murder mystery, I could easily see this ending up on the big screen. Wow! Wow! Wow! Note: no cleaning got done that day!

I don’t usually fall for the time-travel books; the idea’s been too used. With this book, however, I was sucked in from the very beginning. It gives you clues that something has happened to the main character, and it doesn’t tell you until chapter two. By then the story has already taken over, and I just couldn’t put it down. It’s so intense. The author’s style of writing is very expressive and creative, and I plan on reading all of his works. It is the best time-travel novel I’ve read yet, and I hope there’s more to come. A big thumbs up!

I like to read books and this is going to be a favorite from here onward. It is set in Florida (my residence) and I love the story. I won’t give it away, but this makes sense that treasure would be found in Florida and near the beach. I plan on allowing my daughter to read this book and we will discuss it. It’s been a while since we’ve done that and I think that this book is a good re-introduction of that quality time to discuss and imagine.

The title says alot about the audience and is a really good read. The time travel is just the added bonus. I’ll be sure to also suggest this book to my local library to include in their reading club for the summertime.

I have never read a story on time travel, and found myself surprisingly absorbed in the storyline from start to finish. I read every word of this story in just less than three hours! This little book was action-packed and suspenseful, yet it still had a nice combination of humor and romance as well. Kelly was an amazing leading lady, and seemed real and not “over-written.” I can’t wait to read more from this series!

After all the personal issues with my parents death and moving to be with Aunt Jane in Fort Myers Beach [FMB as they say here] I’m pretty well situated.  The beach is amazing and the people so friendly.  The Sand Sculpture contest was epic. I couldn’t believe how good these guys are. EPIC!
